The League of Volunteers (we’re known as “LOV”), is a Non-profit multi-service 501(c)3 agency. Fed ID #94-2638329. Founded in 1979, LOV started providing programs and services to the Tri-Cities to satisfy the need for school arts and community recreation programs after major cutbacks in funding.
LOV currently operates multiple free and low-cost, year-round community programs, services and events. See our Programs Page for more info.
Since 1979, we’ve been working to improve the quality of life in the Bay Area’s Tri-City communities of Fremont, Newark and Union City with more than 40 programs, events and services provided every year, like:
These are only a few of the many programs that we have created.
In 1978 the City of Newark found itself in a financial dilemma with the passing of Proposition 13. Limiting funding and in some cases eliminating funding for libraries, schools and recreation department. Shirley Sisk, one of the founders of the League of Volunteers, saw a need to help the City. Over the years the League of Volunteers (LOV) has evolved into an agency serving not just the City of Newark but Fremont and Union City as well. We are a total Tri-City Community agency.
It is through our many programs that our impact is seen and felt. We serve the Tri-City community with programs such as Summer Recreation, Thanksgiving Day Meal, Sunday Afternoon Concerts, Arts in Schools Assemblies and Scholarships for High School Students to help further their education. Our Food Pantry is making an impact by helping not only families in need but also partnering with other agencies and helping to supplement their pantries.
LOV the organization is funded through private donations and the below Fundraisers:
Chuck Kennedy – President
Betty Cole – Vice President

Finally, our many fund raisers, Annual Frank Sisk Golf Tournament, Elegant Affaire, 4th of July Fireworks Booth, Halloween Quarter Auction and our participation in numerous community fairs, shows and events makes LOV one of the most impactful and recognized non-profit agencies in the southern East Bay Area.
